Is a tutor like a teacher?

Similar training, different job. A schoolteacher delivers a curriculum to a class, manages a room and answers to a school. A tutor works for you, teaches one child, and answers to whether that child improves. The subject knowledge is the same — I am a teacher by background. What changes is that I can ask your child to explain their reasoning out loud every few minutes and adjust on the spot, which is simply not possible with thirty students and a bell.
